JAMMU, Jan 31: On his 96th birth anniversary, Dogra Brahmin Pratinidhi Sabha here today paid rich tributes to Major Somnath Sharma—first recipient of Param Vir Chakra.
A function was organized at Brahman Sabha, Parade under the chairmanship of Ved Parkash Sharma, Sabha President.
The function was started with Hawan and patriotic songs where a large number of people from different walks of life participated.
Speakers on this occasion, highlighted the sacrifice of Major Sharma, who laid down his life while defending Srinagar airport from the tribal attack by Pak Army on Nov 3, 1947.
Tawi Andolan Convener, Chander Mohan Sharma was the chief guest in the function and he paid rich tributes to Major Sharma.
Atma Ram Sharma, Vice President of All India Freedom Fighter Association was felicitated by Sabha on this occasion.
Those who were also present on the occasion were Varinder Mohan Magotra, Nanak Chand Sharma, P.C Sharma, Satya Nand Sharma, Subash Shastri and others.
