JAMMU, Feb 8: A brainstorming session to deliberate various issues pertaining to SOTTO (State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization) was held today during a meeting chaired by Dr Sunanda Raina, Principal & Dean, Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu at Super Speciality Hospital (SSH), Jammu.
The meeting was co-chaired by Dr Vipin Koushal, Head ROTTO, PGIMER, Chandigarh. During the meeting, Dr Sunanda Raina said that GMC Jammu is all set to start SOTTO services and Renal Organ Transplant services for the people of J&K after receiving equipments from JKMSCL.
She said that the Human Resource has been already appointed and the requisite infrastructure already in place for the start of these services. Further, she said that the progress of SOTTO and Renal Transplant Centre is being directly monitored and supervised by Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo.
Dr Vipin Koushal shared the success story of PGIMER Chandigarh and suggested how to make SOTTO fully functional and operational in the Union Territory of J&K. He said the authorities have to get the Institute registered under Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994 (42 of 1994) with Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Rules, 2014. Further, he stressed upon to conduct various public programs, workshop, seminars and public meetings in this direction to create awareness for organ donation and transplantation.
He pointed out that HLA typing is a requirement for which either institute has to establish in House services or do outsourcing after necessary approval. Further, a need for a dedicated website, Brain Dead Certification Committee and to start the process of registration and to create a repository of the potential recipients and donor is to be initiated at the earliest.
The meeting was also attended by HoD Surgery, HoD Medicine, Dr Elias Sharma, HoD Urology and Nodal Officer, SOTTO, GMC Jammu and Dr Rahul Gupta, Associate Professor, I/c Joint Director, SOTTO and Dr Vishal Tandon, Professor, Department of Pharmacology, GMC Jammu, Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent, SSH, Dr Deepak Kumar, Deputy MS, SSH Jammu and others.
