All branch Post Offices being computerized within year: CPMG

JAMMU, Oct 13: India Post is committed to provide best services to people of the State. This was stated by Chief Post Master General, Chandra Prakash while talking to reporters here today in connection with celebration of National Postal Week which is underway from October 9.
Extending his best wishes to the public of J&K and postal staff, he reiterated the commitment of the employees of India Post in the State to provide best possible mail, parcel, saving bank, money transfer and related services to the people.
He said Post Office has been providing mail services like letters, post cards, inland letters, registered letters, parcels and related services and also facilities of Post Offices saving bank and money transfer and money orders, postal orders etc.
Mr Prakash said during last 25 years Post Office has started a number of new customer friendly services like Speed Post, Business Post, Express Parcel, Business Parcel, e-Post, e-Payment, Electronic Money Order, Instant Money Orders Services and International Money Order Services which are being used widely by the public.
He said detailed information of all these services are available on India Post web side www.indiapost.govt.in.
He said India Post has inducted latest technology in Post Office. Now almost all the services like booking mail article, speed Post, Parcels, money orders, PO Savings bank etc. are being provided through computer operations and track and trace services have been made available for mail services. All head post offices and Sub Post Offices have been computerized, he added.
He said branch Post Offices of the rural areas are also being computerized within next one year, he added.
He said the core banking services and ATM facilities are to be started in major Post Offices within six months.
Mr Prakash said recent floods during September in Kashmir valley and other parts of the State have badly affected working of number of post offices. All these Post Offices have been opened again and postmasters and inspectors have restored working in all Post Offices except about a dozen.
He said Srinagar GPO and Anantnag HO which were affected are now functioning normally. The Mail movement has been restored through special efforts and special arrangements. The department is sure that remaining 12 Post Offices will also start functioning normally within next 10 days, he added.
In response to a question, he said the examinations for the post of Postman will be conducted for the post of Postman will be conducted within one or two months as the same was delayed due to floods in the State.
He said the Tax issue will also be sorted out and the tax slab will be down by the end of this month or so.
