Braving sub-zero temperature lakhs join night-long prayers on Milad in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Braving minus 4.4 degree chill, lakhs of people, including women and children, joined the night-long prayers in shrines, mosques, jamia masjids and other holy places on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi, birthday of Prophet Muhammad.
The main congregation was organised at Asar-e-Sharief Hazratbal, which houses the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad, on the banks of Dal Lake.
People from different parts of the Kashmir valley joined the night-long prayers at Hazratbal where authorities had made adequate arrangements for devotees.
Immediately after morning prayers, people had ‘Deedar’ (glimpse) of Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad.
Hundreds of vendors had put up their stalls, selling their products, including eatables outside the shrine complex. State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) and other private transport operators had pressed into service hundreds of vehicles to bring devotees from different parts of the valley. The traffic department had made adequate arrangements to regulate traffic.
Similar Darood-e-Azkar and night-long prayers were held in other shrines, including Jenab Sahib Soura, Asar-e-Sharief Shehri Kailaspora, Pinjoora, and other mosques and holy places in the Valley.
Prayers were also held at Leh, Kargil, Drass, the world’s second coldest place after Siberia, and other areas in Ladakh region.
Main markets in the Kashmir valley, shrines and other religious places were decorated and illuminated on the occasion.
