JAMMU, June 29: A brief exchange of fire was reported along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district today but there were no casualties.
The firing from across the border was reported on a forward Indian post in Krishna Ghati sector late last night, prompting retaliation by the Army troops guarding the LoC, the sources said.
They said there was no casualty in the firing, which lasted for a brief period.
The vigil was intensified to ensure that there is no infiltration by terrorists into this side, the sources said, adding a search of the area is underway.
It couldn’t be ascertained whether there was an infiltration attempt which was foiled by the troops. However, there was no official confirmation of the firing.
Meanwhile, a search operation has been going on in Pathankot for the past three days after a suspect was spotted in the villages between Kathua (in Jammu division) and Pathankot district (in Punjab).
In a bid to arrest the accused, Punjab Police have now released sketch of one of the suspects, made with the help of locals.
According to reports, the suspect was spotted in Keedian Gandiyal area on Kathua border of Jammu region.
A Punjab Police officer has urged the local people to help the police locate the suspect at the earliest.
Since the sighting was reported, both the district police and the Border Security Force (BSF) have been on high alert and are conducting continuous search operations to prevent any possible incident.
Residents alerted the police after spotting suspicious person in Keedian Gandiyal village on the Pathankot-Jammu-Kashmir border. Upon receiving the information, police and commando units quickly launched search operations in Keedian Gandiyal and Kalashar villages, sealing off the entire area. Despite all efforts, the police have not yet been able to track down the suspect.
