JAMMU, Apr 14: Dogri Sanstha Jammu presented the prestigious Prof Ram Nath Shastri Memorial Award-2025 to Brij Mohan, an eminent Dogri poet and music composer in a simple but an impressive function, organized at Dogri Bhawan, Karan Nagar, Jammu.
Brij Mohan Sharma, Principal Secretary in Department of Culture, Government of UT of J & K was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Padmashri Prof Lalit Magotra, president Dogri Sanstha Jammu, presided over the function.
It is pertinent to add here that this award was started by Dogri Sanstha Jammu in collaboration with family members of Prof Ram Nath Shastri in 2013 and thereafter this prestigious award is given to a Dogri writer for his first book published for the last five years. The award carries a memento, shawl and a cash prize of Rs 21,000.
So far noted litterateurs of Dogri, Shailender Singh, Rajeshwar Singh ‘Raju’, Shakunt Deepmala, Susheel Begana, Pitambar Nath Sharma, Ashok Dutta, Colonel Raj Manawari, Ashok Anguarana, Ashok ‘Ambar’, Promila Manhas and Pawan Verma have the privilege being conferred upon this honour.
The chief guest Brij Mohan Sharma, while congratulating the eminent music composer and poet of the soil Brij Mohan, said that he truly deserves this honour which is established in the honour of Padmashri Prof. Ram Nath Shastri, doyen of Dogri literature and often referred as father of Dogri literature.
Earlier, Prof Lalit Magotra said that this award is given with the sole purpose of not only acknowledging the contributions of the Dogri authors but also inspiring them to contribute for preserving and promoting mother tongue Dogri and the contributions of Brij Mohan are immense.
On this occasion, the awardee Brij Mohan also shared his literary as well as music journey and recited his poem written on Padmashri Prof Ram Nath Shastri. Rajeshwar Singh ‘Raju’, General Secretary Dogri Sanstha Jammu read a citation on his works. The proceedings were conducted by Pawan Verma.
A number of litterateurs, Dogri lovers, family members of Prof Ram Nath Shastri, Ajeet Khajuria, Dinesh Khajuria and family members of Brij Mohan participated in the ceremony.
