JAMMU, June 25: Descr-ibing the implementation of GST regime the only alternative, Jammu Province People Forum (JPPF) has impressed upon the State Govt not to delay the same beyond July Ist, 2017 as it will have adverse ramifications on the economy and the welfare of the people of the State.
Addressing the meeting, president Pavittar Singh Bhardwaj said that it is the only J&K State which is the exception as all other States of the Union of India have legislatively consented to implement the GST regime with effect from July Ist, 2017 in whole country. In case of delay on any count whether constitutional, or financial beyond July Ist non-implimentation of GST will trigger economic and financial chaos in the State with the interstate trade taking a big hit.
Members present in the meeting moved a resolution urging the State Govt to implement the GST regime well before July Ist which was passed by voice vote. Members also discussed the some amendments and clarifications requesting the president to pass on the same to the Govt for needful before it clears the GST.
It was pleaded that GST slabs should to be reduced to 3 from 4, 5, 12 and 18 %. Higher slab of 28 % is not acceptable and should be removed.
Petrol and diesel prices to be brought under GST. Presently Central Excise and VAT total is 57 %. If these essential products are brought under GST maximum tax will be only 28 %. It means price of petrol and diesel can come down by almost to 50 %. The items have deliberately been kept away from GST.
All food items whether branded or unbranded should be exempted from the ambit of GST. All items to be named. Gold ornaments to be brought under GST with 0.5 % tax.
A review of GST on 6 monthly basis will be beneficial for effecting corrections on the basis of practical experience.
