LEH, Aug 21: Under the Project Himank,  Border Road Organization has improved connectivity to Pangong Tso by constructing a bridge `Tsultak Setu’ on Phiya Lung Nallah.
Road Karu-Tangtse is the most important axis connecting Leh to Eastern Ladakh and it is being upgraded to National Highway Double Lane specifications by Project Himank (BRO).  The increase in flow in Phiya Lung Nallah during summers and the movement of large volume of both tourist and military traffic across the Nallah over temporary Bailey bridge provided limited connectivity on road Karu-Tangtse.
The limitation has been overcome and crossing across Phiya Lung Nallah near Tsultak has now been successfully bridged by Project Himank by constructing a ‘Tsultak Setu’ on road Karu-Tangtse. Construction of ‘Tsultak’ bridge in a limited working window, has been feasible due to meticulous planning and  mobilization and innovative employment of resources by Brig DM Purvimath, VSM, Chief Engineer, Project Himank, who undertook the challenge of accomplishing this important task and ensured successful construction of Tsultak Bridge by 51 RCC  (753 BRTF); providing a major relief in improving the trafficability for movement of both tourist and military personnel on the road Karu-Tangtse.
The bridge was inaugurated by Lt Gen Shravan Kumar Patyal,  General Officer Commanding 14 Corps and was declared open to security  forces and civilians of Leh-Ladakh region. After the inauguration of bridge, GOC  addressed the officers and subordinates of Project Himank and praised them for their grit and determination while maintaining these highest and most difficult roads. He said that the successful completion of this bridge is a feather in the cap of BRO and emphasized that the bridge near Tangtse must also be completed on priority. The General further emphasized on maintaining the team spirit and also appreciated the efforts of the casual labours of Jharkhand who come year after year, work in the most difficult conditions and help BRO maintain the critical roads of Ladakh.
