JAMMU, Nov 14: A young boy and his sister drowned in River Tawi yesterday.
Alyas (7) and his sister Nadiya (9), children of Liaqat Ali of Anantnag, were grazing cattle near Har Ki Pauri area when the former slipped into the river around 5 pm yesterday.
In order to save her brother, Nadiya too jumped into the river and was also carried away by the water currents.

Soon after getting information, a rescue operation was launched by the police with the help of SDRF to trace the missing children but it had to be later halted due to darkness.
Around 9 am today, some locals spotted the bodies of missing children and informed police.
Accordingly, after performing the legal formalities, police handed over the bodies to their legal heirs.
