Brothers among 4 men, 7 cows killed as truck falls into gorge

RAMBAN, Sept 12: Four men in a truck were killed after huge rocks moved by landslide hit the vehicle they were travelling-in and the vehicle was pushed into a gorge on the bank of Bislari Nullah at Silad in Sherbibi area of Banihal on Jammu Srinagar National Highway in wee hours today.

Seven cows loaded in the truck which was moving towards Srinagar were also killed in the accident and police sources informed that the cows were being transported with proper permission for milk purpose.
The ill fated truck was bearing registration number JK03J-0312.
After receiving information police and rescue teams reached to the spot and retrieved the bodies from the gorge and shifted them to Sub District Hospital Banihal.
The deceased were identified as truck driver Mohammad Afzal Garoo, 42, his brother Altaf Garoo, 36, both sons of Aziz Garoo, residents of Redwani, Kulgam; Irfan Ahmed, 33 and his brother Showkat, Ahmad, 29, both sons of Abdul Hamid Bhat, resident of Trail, Srigufwara, Anantnag.
After conducting post-mortem and other legal formalities the bodies were handed over to relatives of the deceased for last rites.
Sources informed that the bodies have reached the residences of the deceased persons in Kulgam and Anantnag. Officials said that Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained blocked till the rescue operation to retrieve the bodies from the gorge was complete and the Highway was restored by the concerned agency at around 10 am.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mussarat Islam expressed deepest condolences to the bereaved families for the irreparable loss. Sources said that the driver and conductor were real brothers whereas two others travelling in the truck were also real brothers.
SHO, Police Station Banihal Inspector, Mohd Afzal Wani said that a case under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Banihal for further investigations.
