Sir,
This is apropos the brazen police action on electronic media personality Arnab Goswami, the proprietor of Republic TV at his residence in Mumbai, the financial capital of India. His residence was swooped by the police personnel comprising commandos and riot police. He was manhandled, beaten together with his son. The act is highly condemnable and anti democratic as well as extremely grievous in the sense that a fearless and daring journalist and aggressive anchor has been maltreated and brutally assaulted in an organized way for his being engaged in sustained and persistent campaign against the inaction of Mumbai police headed by Top cop Param Bir Singh on behest of the C.M. heading the coalition Govt partnered by NCP, Cong, Shiv Sena in high profile cases of Sushant Singh Rajpoot, Kangna Ranaut and vociferously exposing the dominant lobby of drug addicts in the dream world of Bollywood enjoying strong patronage of top politicians in power.
This reprehensible action on a bold media person for candid reporting and bitter debates on Republic TV is grossly vindictive, intolerant and against the healthy spirit of Democracy. Arnab enjoys tremendous following across the national landscape for his patriotic bent of mind and calling spade a spade on burning national issues irrespective of the political affiliations.
This kind of bullying approach against the media house in a responsible and matured democracy smacks of political arrogance and highhandedness which needs be taken care of on a prompt note. Media plays a very significant role in a progressive democracy. We cannot afford to ruthlessly muzzle this powerful organ of democracy. This would lower us in the estimation of International community. The Apex Court and the Union Govt must take suo moto notice of the undesirable episode for deterrent action on the principle of ” NIP THE EVIL IN THE BUD.”
