SRINAGAR/UDHAMPUR, Dec 1: The Border Security Force (BSF) today celebrated its 60th Raising Day by organizing a series of events across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Over the years, the BSF has established itself as an elite force, excelling in border management, counter-insurgency roles, internal law and order duties and anti-Naxal operations in the country.

Raised initially with 25 Battalions on December 1, 1965, BSF, which now is a strong force with 195 battalions, played a key role during the Indo-Pakistan War in 1971.
The force has consistently demonstrated its unwavering commitment to maintaining the sanctity and integrity of India’s borders and contributing towards national security.
Currently, the BSF is responsible for guarding India’s international borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh while also being deployed on internal security duties.
The force boasts of a unique distinction, with its own Air Wing, Water Wing, and Artillery Regiment.
To commemorate this milestone, a series of events were organised across BSF deployments in the Kashmir Valley, including public outreach programmes, medical camps, rallies and cultural events.
These initiatives aimed to foster greater connectivity with the local population and promote a sense of community.
A cultural programme and Barakhana were organised for BSF veterans, jawans and their families. Satish S Khandare, ADG (Western Command) Chandigarh along with Ashok Yadav IG, BSF Kashmir Frontier and other officers of the Frontier, STC and CH celebrated the occasion with Jawans and their families.
The BSF Raising Day celebrations were marked with great enthusiasm and zeal across all ranks at the Frontier Headquarters, BSF Kashmir.
In Udhampur District of Jammu Province, Rajesh Kumar Gurung, IG STC BSF Udhampur paid rich tributes to the brave martyrs of the force who had made supreme sacrifice and laid down their lives for the nation.
He congratulated all the ranks and emphasized upon to continue achieving new heights by thwarting away the attempts of the enemy to disrupt the peace, tranquility, and the social fabric of the nation.
BSF is guarding approximately 7000 kms International border with the help of latest technology and gadgets. The force has also played tremendous role during IS duties, election duties and anti-Naxal operations.
The main role of STC BSF Udhampur is to impart basic training to the newly recruited jawans. STC BSF Udhampur also conducts promotion courses for in- service personnel, pre-induction training to NSG commandos, residential training to custom & central GST inspectors.
This centre also trains police personnel like Railway Protection Special Force, RAC, Rajasthan Jail Warden etc.
The STC BSF Udhampur has trained approximately 55000 recruits so far.
