JAMMU, June 3: The Border Security Force (BSF) jawans last night foiled an infiltration attempt by the militants at Bobiya forward area in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district.
Official sources said the BSF jawans observed movement along the International Border (IB) in Bobiya forward area of Hiranagar sector last night and opened firing to neutralize the militants.
The militants trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory were reported to have retreated to Pakistan after finding the BSF jawans on high alert on the IB.
The BSF sounded alert all along the IB in Hiranagar and Samba sectors to check for any possible infiltration attempt by the militants. In the morning, the BSF jawans conducted searches along the IB but didn’t find any movement of the militants on this side.
However, blood stains were spotted towards Pakistan, which indicated that at least one militant appeared to have been injured in firing by the BSF jawans but he had managed to escape back to Pakistan.
Sources said the militants appeared to have been launched from Sukhmal area of Pakistan opposite Bobiya in Hiranagar sector for infiltration into the Indian territory but the alert BSF jawans thwarted their plot.
Senior officers of BSF and police visited the spot this morning. However, there were no traces of any infiltration attempt into the Indian territory.
It may be mentioned here that a number of militants were camping opposite the International Border awaiting an opportunity to sneak into this side but hadn’t been successful barring couple of occasions when they twice struck at Hiranagar.
