The 45-year-old unarmed intruder was neutralized in Mangu Chak area after he sneaked into this side from Pakistan post Tugliyalpur late last night, the officials said.
“At around 10.15 pm, forward duty points (of Border Security Force) observed movement of one human being crossing the International Border from Pakistan. His movement was kept under observation and was challenged when he entered into this side,” Inspector General of BSF, Jammu frontier, D K Boora told reporters near the scene of the incident.
Boora along with other senior BSF and Police officers visited the area this morning and reviewed the security situation along the International Border after BSF thwarted the infiltration attempt.
Boora said the intruder appeared to have been deliberately sent to this side to probe the possible gap to be utilized later to push armed terrorists.
Earlier there were reports that some Pakistani terrorists had infiltrated from Kathua and Punjab border areas and reached the forest areas of Udhampur and Doda.
“The intruder tried to flee and was fired upon by the alert BSF personnel and neutralized. The search of the area is still going on,” the IG BSF said, adding the operation is an achievement and a lesson that anyone trying to step his foot on Indian soil with nefarious design will meet the same fate as that of the intruder.
The officials said the body of the intruder was recovered near the border fence but nothing objectionable was recovered from his person.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately, they said, adding the body is being handed over to police for postmortem and other legal formalities.
The BSF has been maintaining strict vigil along the International Border in Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts to thwart any infiltration attempt from across the border.
Meanwhile, security forces have seized a consignment of arms and explosives after busting a cave-type terrorist hideout in a forest area of Rajouri district.
The hideout was unearthed during an ongoing joint cordon and search operation by the police, Rashtriya Rifles, BSF and CRPF personnel at Gulabgarh in Dharamsal area of Kalakote.
The search operation was launched late last night following information about suspicious movement.
An AK assault rifle, two magazines, a pistol with two magazines, two hand grenades, three explosive packets and nearly 100 rounds of assorted ammunition besides some eatables, a rucksack and a couple of cigarettes packets were recovered from the hideout, the officials said.
