BSF jawan dismissed in arms smuggling case

SAMBA, July 22: BSF Constable, Sumit Kumar resident of Gurdaspur Punjab and deployed in Samba Sector of Indo- Pak International Border (IB) who was apprehended on information of Punjab Police on July 11, for his alleged involvement in smuggling activities in connivance with anti-national elements and trans- border criminals has been dismissed by BSF authorities in a swift action today.
Ct Sumit Kumar was immediately apprehended from his place of duty from Indo- Pak International Border and 9 mm pistol, two magazines, 80 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, two rounds of 12 bore ammunition were recovered from his possession, A BSF spokesman said.
A case was registered against him at PS Katarpur (Jalandhar Rural) under Section 302, 506,34, 120B, 212, 216 Indian Penal Code, Section 24/25/59 Arms Act and Section 29/61/85 NDPS Act. Further on July 13 Punjab Police has recovered Rs 32.30 lakh from his house at Gurdaspur, Punjab, the spokesman added.
After suspension, a Departmental Court of Inquiry was ordered and completed in record time against Constable, Sumit Kumar and facts emerged that while his deployment at International Border he connived with Anti National elements / Trans- border smugglers and facilitated them in crossing of narcotics substances and pistols from his place of duty in month of July 2020. He will remain in custody of Punjab Police till his case is finalized.
Inspector General BSF Jammu, N S Jamwal said that Punjab Police is investigating this case. Till now total eight persons including Ct. Sumit Kumar of BSF and one Army personnel have been arrested and more facts will emerge during the course of interrogation.
