JAMMU, Aug 25: A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was injured in a sniping incident by Pakistani Rangers along the International Border (IB) in Arnia sector of Jammu district at noon today.
Official sources said BSF constable KK Appa Rao was manning an Observatory Post in forward area of Arnia sector when he was hit by a sniper shot fired by the Pakistani Rangers at 12 noon.
The jawan was injured. His colleagues evacuated him from the spot and shifted him to hospital, where his condition was stated to be stable.
The ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the International Border were very rare these days though they had been quite common on the Line of Control (LoC).
Significantly, on July 17, the BSF and the Pakistan Rangers had held a Commandant-level flag meeting in Samba sector along the International Border and “committed” themselves to maintaining peace.
In the flag meeting, the two sides had agreed to re- energize instant communication between field commanders, whenever required, to resolve petty matters.
Two days back, senior Army Commanders of India and Pakistan also held a flag meeting on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch sector and agreed to institute mechanisms for durable peace and tranquility on the border.
The year 2017 has seen a sharp increase in ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
