JALANDHAR, May 16: A total 189 jawans, including 43 women, today took oath to serve the nation after the passing out parade during their convocation ceremony at the Hoshiarpur-based training centre of the Border Security Force near here.
After the oath-taking ceremony, meritorious candidates were awarded medals for their performance during the training, Deputy Commandant N P Negi said.
The oath to the jawans was solemnised by BSF Punjab Frontier Deputy Inspector General Naresh Kumar, he said.
The jawans were rigorously trained for a period of 11 months during which they were skilled in operating weapons, patrolling the borders, warfare tactics and to respond during natural calamities among others, Negi said.
The passing out candidates hailed from Bihar, West Bengal, Gujarat, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir among other states, the official said. (PTI)
