SRINAGAR, Mar 5: In a major relief to the people, the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) today restored the broadband internet services in Kashmir following yesterday’s Government order lifting ban on use of social media and other websites.
The BNSL had suspended its internet services in Kashmir on August 4 ahead of abrogation of Article 370 giving special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
The PRO BSNL, Masood Bala told Excelsior that the broadband internet service has been restored across the Valley with authorities deciding not to charge consumers for the suspended period. “The charges for the suspension period to the consumers have been waived off and the services have been restored,” he said.
He said that the BSNL has 21000 broadband customers across Kashmir. “The order to restore the services was issued last month with a condition barring access to the social media and other websites. However, we were in the process of creating a fire wall when government lifted ban on use of social media and other websites so we restored the broadband services as there was no need of fire wall now”, he said.
