BSP observes ‘Shahidi Divas’ of Amar Nath

JAMMU, June 1: State unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) today observed 43rd Shahidi Divas of Bhagat Amar Nath by organizing a function at party headquarters, Satwari here today.
The programme was organized under the chairmanship of State president of the party, Tulsi Dass Langeh. To mark the occasion all the BSP leaders and activists paid floral tributes by garlanding the portrait of Shaheed Bhagat Amar Nath. Mr Langeh while speaking on the occasion recalled the contributions of Bhagat Amar Nath. He said Baba Sahib Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar provided reservation to the SCs/STs in the constitution while in J&K the Government led by the then Prime Minister Sheikh Mohd Abdullah, followed by others was not prepared to provide reservation to the members of these communities. The struggle also continued during the era of Bakshi Ghulam Mohd. After Babu Milkhi Ram, Bhagat Amar Nath continued struggle and sat on hunger strike in front of Secretariat in May 1970 and ultimately sacrificed his life for the cause of his people on June 1, 1970.
There after in 1973, after the struggle of 23 years, 8% reservation was granted in favour of SCs and 10% for STs in the State. But the OBCs are still struggling for the implementation of Mandal Commission report. He alleged that NC-Congress Government and even the PDP has no agenda for the OBCs and other weaker sections. He said BSP is the only party which can provide them justice.
Several other senior leaders also spoke on the occasion. Prominent among them included R L Chargotra, Rattan Kumar Bhagat, Raksh wazir, Azaib Singh Mottan, Dr Harjit Kumar, A K Manawa, Som Nath and B B Kundal.
