BSS, Dogri Sanstha organize classical music concert

JAMMU, Mar 11: Bharatiya Sangeet Sansthan (BSS) in collaboration with Dogri Sanstha Jammu organized a captivating classical music concert at KL Sehgal Hall, Writer’s Club, here.
First of its kind in Jammu, it was participated by nationally well-known artists like Vidushi Dr Kamala Shankar and Pt Vinod Lele from Banaras who enthralled the jam-packed auditorium with remarkable jugal bandi of Shanker Veena and Tabla. Local artists like Dr Roshi Shamnotra, Prabhat Bali and Nirmal Sufi too proved their mettle in classical music by their superb performances to make the musical evening a memorable one.
Justice Sindhu Sharma (Judge of J&K High Court), Justice O P Sharma (former judge of J&K High Court) and music maestro V K Sambyal (popularly known as Rangeeley Thakur) were among the galaxy of music lovers, litterateurs and artists who witnessed the event.
The musical evening started with welcome and introduction by Vasundhara K Singh and lighting of the lamps in true Indian style during which a group of students of V K Sambyal sang Saraswati Vandana harmoniously. Dr Roshi Shamnotra, faculty member of the Institute of Music & Fine Arts, presented two compositions and Tarana in Raag Bihag. She was accompanied by Prabhat Bali on Tabla, Nirmal Sufi on Harmonium and Devangi on Tanpura.
The main highlight of the musical evening was Raag Shyaam Kalyan and a Dadra on the Shankar Veena presented by Dr Kamala Shankar, accompanied by Pt Vinod Lele on Tabla.
Speaking after the conclusion of the outstanding classical musical performances, Prof Lalit Magotra, President, Dogri Sanstha Jammu said that such programs help in getting attached to our roots.
Raj Kumar ‘Behrupia’, a well-known theatre activist and a classical singer, conducted the proceedings.
