Buddha Purnima celebrated amid lockdown

JAMMU, May 7: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations, J&K, observed the Buddha Purnima and held a prayer service at its head office, here in Jammu. A prayer service was organized in which tributes were offered to Lord Buddha and prayers held for well-being of all those fighting with COVID-19.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Kalsotra, J&K president of the Confederation, highlighted the mantra ‘Buddham Sharanam Gacchami’ and said that we need to understand the message of Buddha which were based on love all and service to humankind. He also said that the ideas promulgated by Lord Buddha of unity and service to others are more important than ever in times of COVID-19 pandemic.
Councillor Prof (Dr) Youdhvir Singh organized a program to celebrate Buddh Jayanti while following all protocols of COVID-19. On the occasion, ration kits consisting of millets, grocery, spices, sugar, oil and flour were distributed amongst all the Safai Karmacharis working in the area. The permanent staff members of the Municipal Corporation namely Joginder Singh (Sanitary Inspector) and Kirna Devi (Supervisor) were also honoured.
All Jammu Kashmir Buddha Mission Society Jammu celebrated Buddha Purnima under its president K K Digra with the family members and few prominent members of executive committee such as Dr D C Bassan, Kanta Bhasin, Seema Bhardwaj, PC Lahotra, Dr Jai Kishan, Dr Anu Radha, Kanchan and Abhay Singh. The participants observed the ‘Full Sutra’ and prayer and distributed ‘kheer’ to the participants.
