Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad inaugurated the International Festival of Buddhist Heritage of Ladakh, which was being attended by delegates not only from within the country but also from Japan, Australia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Germany, Singapore , Thailand etc . A large delegation of 36 members from Malaysia, led by Datuk Dr. Victor Wee also joined the festival. Many prominent and renowned leaders from other faiths also graced the occasion with their joining the festival. The importance of the festival highlighting the Buddhist rich heritage of Ladakh can be visualized by the active participation of a vast spectrum of religious and spiritual personalities from across host of countries. Mr. Azad on the occasion highlighted the message of Lord Budha of universal values of peace, compassion and understanding. In fact, that being the message of rich Indian values as “Buddhism, a religion indigenous to Indian sub- continent is admired world over.”
On this occasion, the delegates also acknowledged the outstanding contributions of the legendary figure of Ladakh, Kushak Bakula Rimpoche and described him as an emissary of Buddhism, statesman and international diplomat of high degree. Melodious Buddhist chanting, spectacular mask dance by monks of Hemis monastery were parts of the enthralling cultural programme of the inaugural function of the festival.
The State Government should also devise strategy to develop this ‘Buddhist circuit’ in the best possible manner for tourists across the world.
