This refers to the excellent article ‘Budhist Heritage of Jammu’ DE Jan 31.
The author deserves kudos for highlighting an important issue not only from Buddhist view point but from rich religious diversity of Jammu region also.
There is urgent need to restore this cultural and religious heritage of Jammu. The author has rightly observed that important Buddhist sites of Jammu region can be developed as international Buddhist sites of ancient India and as international Buddhist tourist destination. Once that is done it will not only create job opportunities for local people but will bring Jammu region on the map of world tourism.
The Archaeological Survey of India, INTACH, and Buddhist organisation should launch an initiative in this direction. Besides, the suggestion as made by the author also deserve to be taken note of. Hope, the concerned people will not turn a blind eye to it.
