JAMMU, Dec 30: Dogri Sanstha today organized a programme of ‘Geet Sandhya’, a musical evening of melodious songs penned by most prominent Dogri poetess Padma Sachdev as a part of Dogri Maanta Divas and New Year celebrations here today.
About two dozen budding singers, representing the new generation, enthralled the audience with a scintillating bonanza of music and poetry under the direction of noted music director Brij Mohan.
The programme began with a Bhent ‘Jammu Shehar Khand Mitthe Pataase’ by Varsha Jamwal followed by Mehvish who presented famous song of the poetess ‘Bhadro Ne Rohay Kanne Bhanniyan Duariyaan’. Audience applauded the melodious performance of Vivek Mohan and Sonali Dogra while the songs presented by the talented Sushmita and Indu Bala were also enjoyed by everybody.
Renowned singer of the State Dharmesh Nargotra, who presented masterpiece of Padma Sachdev ‘Sanjh Roungli Te Ghatt Aye Duaas Mati Aye’, mesmerized the music lovers with his melodic voice and style. The Geet Sandhya culminated with a beguiling group songs ‘Us Dogre Aan Aakhane Aan Shaanaa Kanne…’ which has attained the status of an anthem for Dogras owing to its inspiring words and composition. Beside others, Pallavi, Priya, Meeakshi, Priyanka, Antu Bannerji, Nirmal Koul, Sunil Azad, Raunak, Shiv, Shubham and Purshottam also participated in the group songs.
The singers were accompanied on Guitar by Sanjay Pashi, Dholak by Darbari Lal , synth by Banty Kumar and Pad by Rohit.
In his welcome address, Chhatrapal , president Dogri Sanstha, said that Dogri language is the identity of Dogras and it is the moral duty of every Dogra to promote it and its culture.
Vice president of Dogri Sanstha Gianeshwar presented vote of thanks while Vijay Atri compeered the one-hour long programme.
