Srinagar, Dec 2: Scores of land owners from Budgam whose land comes under the Semi Ring Road project have sought compensation from the Government in accordance to the Central Land Acquisition Act 2013 and not under that of erstwhile J&K State which stands repealed.
The affected owners today assembled outside the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam’s office to press for their demands.
Under the banner of ‘J&K Ring/ Semi Road Land Owners Welfare Committee’, scores of owners demanded compensation to the affected people as per central law governing land acquisition process.
“We demand that the compensation should be paid as per Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013,” they said, adding “this law is now applicable to J&K from October 31”.
They said that the affected farmers/ owners have resolved that they won’t accept any compensation under the J&K Land Acquisition Act-1934.
“We smell rat wherein Govt is planning to acquire their fertile land for peanuts; we will not give away our land for the proposed project if we are not paid the compensation in accordance to the central law,” they said.
They also demanded that the affected families whose majority of land holding comes under the alignment proposed for the project shall be rehabilitated and resettled.
Pertinent to mention here that the semi-ring road project is nearly 62-kilometres long road which starts from Gallander area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and ends in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. It also touches the boundary of Srinagar near Narbal area.
