Budhal people protest against GREF, block road

RAJOURI, Mar 18: The villagers from Kewal and adjoining areas of  Budhal held protest against the GREF authorities and blocked road for about three hours today.
The villagers led by local Sarpanch and Naib Sarpanch assembled at Kewal village and then started protest demonstration at around 10 am. They raised barricades on Rajouri-Budhal road and disrupted the movement of traffic for three hours. They alleged that GREF started road widening work on this road 3-4 years back and for the last nearly two years they have abandoned the work and not raised protection walls after cutting activity. Due to recent rains, at least six houses on the road side were partially damaged due to sliding. The people have suffered losses due to negligence on the part of GREF men.
They raised slogans against BRO/ GREF Chief Engineer and other officials  and demanded compensation for the losses suffered. The vehicles remained stranded on the road for long. Later, Tehsildar Budhal Israr Mir and SHO reached the spot. They pacify the agitating people and assured to take up the issue with the concerned GREF officials.
