Sudhanshu Tripathi
The grand foundation laying ceremony of Lord Sri Ram Temple at Ram Janam Bhumi (the birth-place of Ram Lala), in Ayodhya (UP), has once again revived the glory of Bharat’s perennial spirit which had been subjected to around five centuries of brutal humiliation and suppression by several foreign aggressive-warrior invaders. The so-passed traumatic centuries had witnessed the unfortunate killing of millions of Ram-Bhakatas (Hindu devotees) in the aftermath of destruction of the original Ram Temple and consequent erection of a mosque known as Babari Masjid at that very birth-place of Ram Lala by the Mughal commander Meer Baqi, during the reign of first Mughal ruler Babur,
Now all these narrations are severe blots of the past which need to be forgotten and a new beginning reflecting love, peace, solidarity, fraternity and welfare or happiness of all be forged that Lord Ram had accomplished as Ram Rajya in the Treta Yug, prior to the ongoing Kalyug in the present. As Sant Tulsidas euologised about the Ramrajya:
“Ram raj baithe tirloka, harshit bhai gaye sab soka.”
As well described by all Ramayanas including that of Sant Tulsidas’s Ram Charita Manas and also popular beliefs and sayings coming down today since unknown past that Lord Ram was indeed the Maryada Purushottam – one who had all along been extremely self-disciplined throughout his mortal life and had always sincerely honoured social customs and injunctions and also moral values, as a King as well as a person, in the overall interest of family, society, entire humanity and the whole world as well. Besides these, He displayed an unparalleled chivalry and fearlessness against all odds and eliminated several rakhshas and daityas (demons and devils) including Ravan to restore the supreme authority of Dharma in society that He always obeyed and respected through life as a King as well as a Person. In fact, these very distinct characteristics of His persona made Him an ideal of truth, love, peace, justice, brotherhood, equality, piety, compassion etc. forever. Though He was born to King Dasharatha of Ayodhya but due to these ideals He is believed to be the incarnation of the almighty God on earth who is Purna Brahaman, one Who is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, as intricately yet vividly described by a nirgun upasaka (one for whom the Almighty God is shapeless or formless and can’t be seen like a human being) Sant Kabir:
“Dasharath sut tihun lok bakhana, Ram nam kar maram hai anna.”
That He never dies nor is He born to and remains present in all living and non-living beings and creatures and so are all these entities present in Him. In fact, all these inherent traits of Lord Ram as an immortal Spirit had a define purpose of His divine incarnation; that is beautifully explained in another yet the most revered epic Bhagwad Gita wherein Lord Krishna, the incarnation of the Purna Brahaman in Dwapar yug prior to the Treta Yug, exhorts to the sadly overwhelmed and confused Arjuna:
“Yada Yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati bharata,
Abhyutthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srijamyaham, Paritranay sadhunam vinash-aya cha dushkritam
Dharmasamsthapnarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge.”
Thus restoring and consolidating the true meaning of religion – not simply a bundle of religious rituals but indeed the real way of life for all beings in a bewildered and restless society – is the real purpose of such divine incarnation in each yug or age. As everybody knows that it was on the foundation of religion upon which Lord Rama built an ideal social, political and economic order in his empire where everyone was happy, satisfied, safe and fully contented in all respects – temporal as well as spiritual.
Now this should be the goal once again in our modern Bharat whose glorious culture past and so-evolved rich classical heritage are characterised by many divine slogans like sarve bhavantu sukhinah, sarve santu niramahayah…, sahnavavatu sahnau bhunaktu sahveeryam karvavahia…, vasudhaiv kutumbakam, ahimsa parmodharmah, satyamev jayate nanritam and many more such cherished ideals: and all these still hold true in the popular psyche of all Bhartiya people even today. Evidently each one of us must orient his or her life in accordance with the values and goals for which Lord Ram always stood firmly and also renounced all of his palatial luxuries and pleasures and went into forests for 14 years as vanavas, and must practice the core-essentials of humanism towards building the Ramrajya which is to be a perfect society in all respects and be completely devoid of violence, insecurity, casteism, linguism, communalism, regionalism and all kinds of discriminations and injustices etc.. In fact, building the Ramrajya can’t be a one sided affair of the government of the day alone but people at large will have to contribute their own selves towards this end; only then can such formation of the ideal state be successfully accomplished. It is simply a matter of commitment whether or not we are prepared to abandon our petty and narrow selfish interests viz. excessive feelings of family, caste, religion, community, region etc. and several other partisan inclinations.
Further, the declining level of the party-politics and increasing number of the criminals turned politicians in our country due to criminalization of politics and politicization of criminals, apart from organized violence and mounting terrorism including global terrorism and religious fundamentalism, rising corruption and nepotism and, last but not the least, is commodification and exploitation of women including children, are some of the other grave challenges which will not let the dream of Ramrajya to realize into fruition.
But, all these hurdles can be overcome if We the people of Bharat unitedly resolve to achieve the said goal in right earnest by rising above all above-citied vested interests and seriously word hard for the same. Obviously, this can’t be done in a day or two or in a short span of time, rather it is a long going gradual process; but the desired goal will be accomplished if our mind and heart both are truthful and honest and firmly committed for achieving the goal of Ramrajya. This is possible as nothing is beyond human endeavour.
