Bulk of unclaimed paneer seized near KC Chowk

JAMMU, Dec 2: Acting on strict directions from the Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) J&K, teams from the Department of Food Safety (DFCO), Jammu, conducted market inspections in the city on the eve of the winter season and upcoming festivities. During these checks, officials discovered seven thermocol boxes containing unclaimed paneer near KC Chowk, BC Road, close to a petrol pump.
Each box weighed approximately 50-55 kg and was found abandoned. Despite repeated public announcements in the area, no one came forward to claim ownership of the consignment. The team immediately informed the local police station, and the paneer was taken into custody under relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA).
Authorities have issued a public notice requesting the owner, recipient, or dispatcher of the consignment to contact the Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety or other officials at the provided contact numbers by 12 noon tomorrow. Being a perishable item, if unclaimed, the stock will be destroyed in compliance with the law.
The DFCO has emphasized the importance of consumer safety and vowed to continue extensive drives to curb adulteration and ensure food hygiene during the festive season.
