SRINAGAR, Jan 31:
Alleging that the bureaucrats have failed to deliver governance as per the expectations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today urged Election Commission of India (ECI) to announce the dates for the Assembly polls in the newly created Union Territory.
Interestingly, the UT of J&K — which came into existence after the State of Jammu and Kashmir was downgraded and bifurcated into two UTs last year — is being run by Lt Governor Administration in direct consultation with the BJP-led NDA Government.
“People are suffering as bureaucrats have failed in fulfilling their responsibilities as per the expectations of the people. We urge ECI to announce dates for the Assembly polls in J&K,” BJP’s Kashmir Media In-Charge Manzoor Bhat said in a statement issued here today.
He said that people are fed up with the bureaucrats and developmental works are still pending. “Now people want to elect their own representatives, so that they can get sigh of relief from bureaucratic politics,” he said.
“Bureaucrats are enjoying the perks of Government but they have failed to work as per the expectations of the people, so it is important for ECI to hold Assembly polls immediately,” Mr Bhat alleged, adding that earlier Panchayat, Local Body and Parliamentary Polls were held in a peaceful manner.
He said unlike politicians, who have to go to the electorate every five years seeking ‘votes’ as his ‘appraisal’ for the performance, but bureaucrats come with a ‘seniority-based promotion’ and are least bothered about their performance reviews.
Mr Bhat further alleged that in Kashmir, most of the bureaucrats are there for ‘authority’ and ‘administration’, and not development. “After J&K become UT, people were expecting to get rid from blue eyed bureaucrats but things remained unchanged. There are thousands of cases pending in public departments as administration had totally neglected them,” he said.
He said that if the centre has plan to delimitation of parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies, then it should be done on priority basis, so that elections could held on time. “We would not allow people of Jammu and Kashmir to suffer anymore, as they had already faced problems during the past 70 years by NC and PDP Governments,” he alleged.
Bhat also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah led Government to announce special package for apple growers in Kashmir who have suffered cores of losses by the unseasonal snowfall last year. (UNI)
