Burglar arrested, goods worth lakhs recovered

Srinagar, Mar 2: Police today arrested a non-local burglar from Bihar who was involved in burglary cases in Lolab area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district and recovered stolen property worth lakhs of rupees on his instance.
SSP Kupwara Shamsher Hussain said that a complaint was registered in Police Station Sogam by one Showket Ahmad, a resident of Gulgam regarding a burglary last month. The complainant stated that two persons Mohammad Akbar Sofi and Dineshwar Kumar, both residents of village Sitapur Supual of Bihar decamped with DG track system worth Rs 21 lakh from Doniwari Lolab.
“Police after registering a case in this regard constituted a SIT headed by DySP Lolab, Sarfaraaz Bashir. The team raided different locations in the State and rounded up many suspects. Based on some leads a party was also deputed to Bihar,” he said.
The SSP said the team with the help of Bihar Police questioned some suspects who were working in Lolab area as labourers. The theft case was solved after one Mohammad Akbar Sofi of Village Sitapur district Sipual, Bihar confessed his involvement in the case.
“On the disclosure of accused, the stolen property worth Rs 21 lakh was recovered and on his instance, the stolen property which includes digital Acoustic Sensor system used for laying optical fiber Cables was recovered from different locations of District Supaul of Bihar,” he said, adding, “the other accused is still absconding and efforts are being made for his arrest.”
