RAMBAN, Jan 9: Banihal police busted a burglary gang with the arrest of its five members and recovery of stolen cash and other items.
This was informed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Haseeb-ur-Rehman while interacting with media persons.
Divulging the details, SSP informed that a written complaint was lodged by Tanveer Ahmed Choudhary, son of Bashir Ahmed Choudhary of Bus Stand Banihal with Police Station Banihal stating that during the intervening night of January 7 and 8, some unidentified persons entered into his and other shops and decamped with cash and other items.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 3/2021 under Sections 457 and 380 IPC was registered at Police Station Banihal and investigation started, SSP stated.
“During the course of investigation, a team from Police Station Banihal rounded up several suspects and finally arrested five thieves involved in the theft. On their disclosure, stolen Rs 3,34,951 cash and other items were recovered”, SSP stated.
He said the arrested persons were also involved in a series of thefts in Ramban, Banihal, Batote and Qazigund areas, adding that efforts are underway to arrest more members of the gang who are still at large.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Nayeem-ul-Haq busted the gang and made the arrests under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Ashish Gupta, Additional SP Ramban Rajni Sharma and SSP Ramban Haseeb-ur-Rehman.
It is pertinent to mention here that the shopkeepers also held protest yesterday at Banihal after the shops were looted and also blocked the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
