JAMMU, Oct 21: Various Bus Unions including Banihal, Poonch, Jammu-Kathua, Chhamb, R S Pura etc today urged the J&K Government to hold fresh elections of various Bus Unions in democratic manner and dissolve the self-styled and illegal Bus Unions.
In a joint press conference held here today, the members of various Bus Unions of Jammu region strongly supported Ajit Singh Chairman of J&K Transport Welfare Association and sought the intervention of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to hold fresh elections of various Bus Unions.
They pointed out that no elections of the Bus Unions were held for the last over seven years. Some self styled presidents are running the show with their vested interests causing damage to the interest of general transporters.
They pointed out that after the death of president of Banihal Bus Group his son Gurdeep Singh Pappu became the self styled president without any proper elections. He is plying his own vehicles on various routes causing damage to the common transporters. Other two members Vijay Singh Chib and Bharat Sharma are sunning their own syndicate to cause maximum damage to the Private Transport Industry.
These transporters said that they had some hope from the Chairman JKTWA, Ajit Singh before whom they discussed their issue. They said only three- four persons are running the affairs of the Bus Unions in Jammu. The other transporters are facing lot of difficulties and running into losses.
They demanded that newly elected government should intervene and hold free and fair elections of the private Bus Unions and elect new presidents and office bearers with the involvement of Divisional Administration so as to save the general transporters from massive losses, loot and plunder by few people at the helm of affairs.
