JAMMU, Nov 10: Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association (BWA) is celebrating the 117th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Gyagi on February 14 at Shahzadpur Maratha.
This was stated by president of the association Sat Paul Lakhotra, during a press conference here today.
To look into the arrangements for birth anniversary celebration a Committee has been constituted, which will be headed by Captain Kamal Chand Motan, he informed.
He urged the Government to declare birthday of the Guru as public holiday in district Jammu and also appealed to allot a piece of land to the Batwal Community for the construction of a community hall.
Lakhotra added that the Batwal community has been totally neglected by the Government at all levels and this has been the reason of its backwardness and abject poverty.
He demanded representation in Legislative Council and District Development Boards, reservation benefits, nominations of deprived students to professional institutions to pursue MBBS course and economic-cum-employment package.
He urged Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally look into the issues of the community for early redressal.
