BWJA demands stern action against blackmailers

BARAMULLA, Aug 18: Baramulla Working Journalist Association (BWJA) out rightly rejects any patronage or support to yellow journalism and demanded harsh punishment to blackmailers who have been using social media to defame this noble profession.
In an extraordinary meeting presided over by Chairman BWJA Karamat Qayoom, BWJA members expressed concern over the growing misuse of journalism by some pseudo journalists. The BWJA has always discouraged such elements and had been supporting and encouraging genuine journalists only.
The BWJA has extended support to professional and genuine working journalists time to time and if they face any problems while discharging their professional duties, the BWJA stood shoulder to shoulder with them.
“BWJA believes in ethics of journalism. We will always support professional journalists. There is no space for those indulging in blackmailing, extortion and yellow journalism, be that individual part of the association or outside it,” a resolution passed by the organisation stated.
The members while expressing concern over the growing incidents of blackmailing, besides misuse of social media solely for monitory gains, decided that only those journalists working with outlets heaving RNI registration will be allowed to operate in the district and will be accommodated in the BWJA which is the sole organisation working for the welfare of journalists.
During the meeting, it was also decided that elections of the association will be held very soon and elected body of BJWA will be framed.
The members present in the meeting was Altaf Baba, Zargar Gulzar, Sajad Hussain, Anzar Mohju, Suhail Khan, Fayaz Bukhari, Shiekh Dawood, Majid Sheeri, Irshad Bhat, Mudasir, Yaqoob Lala, Umer Rashid, Manzoor Sheeri, Arshid Farooq and Inayat Qayoom.
