SRINAGAR, Nov 23: Cab drivers held a strong protest against private cab service providers for incorporating private vehicles into taxi services here today in Srinagar.
Reports said numerous cab drivers gathered at Partap Park, Press Enclave in Srinagar to express their discontent with cab services in Srinagar. They accused these services of neglecting commercially registered vehicles with cab aggregators and utilizing private vehicles instead.
“We have been partnering with cab aggregators for the past three years. To prevent illegal activities, cab aggregators were instructed to register, and the ARTO conducted sting operations to curb private vehicles. While partially successful, it has not been entirely effective,” a protester said.

He said that around 150 cab drivers’ families are suffering due to this illicit practice and urged for immediate intervention to halt the use of private vehicles.
“We have taken out loans; there are around 150 registered vehicles, and the companies are hiring private vehicles. All the aggregators who have roped in private vehicles should be stopped. We have raised the issue with the aggregators, but they are doing nothing,” he added.
