Cabinet allows railway land for KVs, metro tracks

NEW DELHI, Apr 18: The government today approved a proposal of the Railways for the use of its land for setting up of kendriya vidyalayas and other public utilities, in what could open a new revenue generating source for the national transporter.
The proposal, vetted by the Union Cabinet, will also allow use of its land by metro network for crossing under ground, on the surface as well as on elevated track.
Indian Railways will also allow opening of Kendriya Vidyalayas on its land to provide adequate educational facilities to children of railway staff placed in remote areas where educational institutions are not adequate, said a government statement.
Exchange of railway land with central/state governments, department and local bodies for setting up public utilities shall also be entered into by Indian Railways wherever considered mutually beneficial, the statement said.
