Cancellation of land: Ramdev to challenge HP govt decision in court

HARIDWAR, Feb 21:
Yog Guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth will challenge in the court the reported decision of the Himachal Pradesh government to nix the lease of 96 bighas of land near Solan district, granted to the Yogpeeth by the previous BJP regime.
Acharaya Balkrishna, the general secretary of Yogpeeth and close aide of Baba Ramdev, told reporters today that they had not yet received any information from the state government on the cancellation of the lease deed.
He said the lease was granted to the Yogpeeth after getting consent of farmers from 40 concerned villages and all the legal formalities had been fulfilled.
He added that they had deposited Rs 17 lakh as security at the time of the granting of the lease and as per its conditions they had to pay Re 1 per bigha per year for the land given on lease.
“It was not a commercial transaction. The land was given for a social cause, that is to popularise yoga and ayurveda,” he claimed.
Balkrishna said by this time they had spent Rs 10 to 11 crore on construction on the land and if the government wanted to cancel the deed, they should return the money with interest.
The Yoga Bhavan on the allotted land was scheduled to be inaugurated on February 27 and the preparations were going on for it, he pointed out.
The confidant of Ramdev alleged that the Congress-led state government was motivated by malice and vindictiveness.
“It is the price we are paying for raising the issue of black money and corruption in the country,” he alleged. (UNI)
