Capacity Building Programme organized for women cops

JAMMU, Mar 14: A three day Capacity Building Programme for the women Police Officers with special focus on crime against women and its investigations, was conducted in Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy from March 12.
Thirty three women Police Officers participated in the programme, which was inaugurated by Mohammad Sulaiman Salaria, ADGP, Director SKPA Udhampur along with SSP Stanzin Norboo and DDP Murtaza Nasir. The programme was coordinated by SSP Randheer Singh while proceedings were conducted by Prosecuting Officer Neha Nayyar.
This programme was sponsored by the National Commission of Women (NCW) in collaboration with BPR&D (Bureau of Police Research & Development). As the main task of NCW is to study and monitor all matters relating to the constitutional and legal safeguards provided for women to review the existing legislations and suggest amendments wherever necessary.
Experienced and renowned Resource Persons interacted with the course participants. The Resource Persons included Dr. Kavita Suri, (Head, Deptt. of Lifelong Learning, JU and also a member of State Women Commission), Sunita Kargotra, (CPO RPHQ), Er Gagan Deep Singh (I/C Cyber cell Jammu), Dr Nancy Mengi (Asstt. Prof CUJ), Dr Vinka Maini, (Registrar, Deptt of Forensic Medicine, GMC Jammu), Kamal Sharma, (CPO SKPAU), Sunniya Wani (Dy SP), Rohit Koul (Retd Scientific Officer FSL Jammu), Mohd. Asif Choudhary I/C FSL Udh-Reasi Range, Inspr Jagpal Sharma and SI Mahmood Ahmed from S K Police Academy Udhampur.
All the Resource Persons discussed in detail the different issues and were helpful in upgrading the knowledge and investigating skills of the participating women officers. This Academy provided the platform for achieving the objectives of this training programme of making the women police officers well versed with laws pertaining to women, familiarising them about implementations of such laws with counselling skills and also appreciating the psychological state of the victims, promoting better understanding of professional requirements as well as sensitization to social, economic and political environment in which the activities are to be undertaken, to treat women with dignity, honour and to inculcate, confidence in them and to make sure that women do not face any harassment when they approach police stations and are treated with due courtesy and dignity.
