JAMMU, Feb 18: Emotional and patriotic fervour gripped a large audience at Govt College for Women Gandhi Nagar Jammu as the Army veterans and family members of martyred soldiers and civilians were honoured by Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan Memorial Trust, Udhampur on Sunday.
The programme was organised by the Trust to commemorate 8th martyrdom day of Martyr Captain Tushar (Shourya Chakra), who lost his life while fighting terrorists in the Pampore area of South Kashmir in 2016.
Lt-Gen (Retd) Rakesh Sharma , Major-General (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Major General Sonika Kapoor, Honorary Captain Sansar Chand , Col V K Sahi, (Vir Chakra), Col V K Mangotra, Asha Gupta – Principal Women College Gandhinagar were guest of honor on the occasion while senior officers from the Army and Police, and prominent citizens, NCC students attended the function.
Speakers on the occasion paid rich tribute to Captain Tushar Mahajan and said he was the epitome of true Indian soldier who did not mind sacrificing his life for the country. His courage, devotion and sacrifice would always be remembered and inspire everyone, they added and also appreciated the activities of the Trust.
Six Army veterans and eight family members of the martyrs from the Army, Police and civilians from different parts of the country, who were honoured during the function, included Hony Captain Swaran Singh Chib of 17JAKLI; Captain Koushal Kumar of 13 JAKLI, Captain Swaran Singh of 13 JAKLI ,Major General Sunita Kapoor, Hony Captain Sansar Chand, Havaldar Karnail Singh, Amit Koul, ASI Babu Ram of J&K Police, Hav Neelem Singh, Sepoy Nikhil Sharma of 3 JAKLITRR, Naib Subedar Chuni Lal of 8 JAKLI, Hav Diler Singh Bhau of 12 JAKLI and civilian martyrs Ruchir Kumar Koul from Bhaderwah and Pawan Kumar Sen from Kishtwar. Documentaries on their valour were also showed on the occasion.
Senior member of the Trust, Vikas Singh Manhas highlighted various activities of the Trust. Dev Raj Gupta, Chairman of the Trust and father of Martyr Capt Tushar Mahajan, presented the vote of thanks. Trust members Kalpana Jamwal, Pratibha Bhat, Shewatketu Singh Jamwal, Karun Raina and Deepanker Gupta were present on the occasion. Stage was managed by Irfan.
