Car catches fire, narrow escape for 2 inmates

KATHUA, Sept 27: A Himachal Pradesh based car bearing Registration Number, HP46 1063 caught fire and burnt into ashes at Toll Plaza Lakhanpur near here, today.
The owner of the car Sham Singh a resident of Chamba Himachal and his associate had a narrow escape. Their timely action saved them. The unfortunate incident took place when the car driver felt smell of smoke after the ill fated car reached NHAI Toll Plaza Lakhanpur.
The car owner Sham Singh said that within seconds car turned into flames and they jumped out immediately and rescued themselves. He said “I have raised alarm for help and also knocked the door of NHAI, Toll Plaza for fire extinguisher. But no one came for help and ultimately car engulfed into flames. The fire tender reached after half an hour but it was too late and the car turned into ashes”.
The car owner showed serious concern that rescue or fire extinguishing arrangements are not made by NHAI on busy Highway which are mandatory as per NHAI rules. He said “If I would have got timely help from NHAI Toll Plaza, the car could have been saved”. The Lakhanpur Police has started investigation into the matter.
