Srinagar, Mar 27: Police today said it has arrested a notorious car lifter and recovered eight stolen vehicles on his instance in city here.
A police spokesman said acting on specific information a police party apprehended a notorious car thief namely Bashir Ahmad Sheikh alias Bashir Nindra of Char-i-Sharief area of Budgam district. “Police recovered six Maruti cars, a Tavera vehicle and a load carrier (Tata-207) on his instance,” he said.
The spokesman said during investigation it surfaced that he has stolen two vehicles from Batamaloo and Karan Nagar areas here and other six vehicles from Anantnag district.
“Bashir Ahmad had changed number plates of all these vehicles; however there seems no tampering in engine and chassis numbers. A case under FIR number 09/2016 under section 379 RPC has been registered and further investigation is going on,” the spokesman said. He added that the accused is also involved in a case under FIR number 110/2015 under section 377 RPC.
