BHADARWAH, Jan 8: A timber smuggling bid was foiled by the personnel of Forest Protection Force (FPF) here during late night hours and the vehicle (car) involved in the crime was seized but the smugglers managed to escape from the spot taking the advantage of darkness.
The personnel of FPF led by DFO Bhadarwah, Chander Shekhar, who also holds the charge of Deputy Director FPF, seized the private car bearing registration number JK02R-6472 used to smuggle illicit timber extracted from green cedar trees at Chakka village in Neeru Range of Bhadarwah Forest Division.
DFO Bhadarwah told Excelsior that this is the fourth private car seized during the last two months in which the smugglers tried to smuggle illicit timber during night hours.
“Timber mafia are now using a new modus operandi using private scrap cars for smuggling but we have successfully foiled their attempts so far,” Chander Shekhar maintained.
