Cardiology Deptt holds medical-cum -awareness camp at SOS Home

JAMMU, Dec 13: Taking a step further towards reaching out to the commoners and spreading awareness about Cardiac diseases, Cardiology Department of Government Medical College Jammu and Super-Speciality Hospital today held a day-long camp at SOS Home in Gole Gujral area of Talab Tillo in the outskirts of Jammu city.
The team of cardiology department led by Dr Sushil Kumar Sharma interacted with the inmates of SOS Home and screened them for prevalence of  Rheumatic Fever, an inflammatory disease that can develop as a complication of inadequately treated strep throat or scarlet fever. Besides Rheumatic fever, the team also screened some cases of Obesity.
The inmates were also apprised of precautions necessary for overcoming the dangerous diseases which not only make children sick but are harmful for their healthy future. Dr Sushil informed the children in the SOS Home that Rheumatic fever can cause permanent damage to the heart. “Treatment can reduce tissue damage from inflammation and prevent the recurrence of rheumatic fever,” added Dr Sushil.
Not only children but even mothers taking care of these special creations of God in the SOS Home were screened and provided medicines free of cost. Calling them mothers of special creations of God, Dr Sushil advised them to eat healthy food besides keeping an eye on their over-all health parameters.
Assistant Director, SOS Home, Brijesh Singh was also present during the day long camp.
Led by Dr Sushil, the doctors who were part of this humane effort include Dr Mohi Kalsotra and Dr Dhaneshwar Kapoor. Paramedics and Volunteers who were part of the team include Kamal Sharma, Inder Kotwal, Sanjay Sharma, Gaurav Sharma, Mohan Krishan, Lokesh, Vikas Kumar and Rohit Khajuria.
