The scope of commerce has been increasing tremendously day by day with globalisation, industrialisation, and expansion of the service sector in the economy. The students opting commerce stream have luminous future with new dawn of magnificent success. The seed of commerce seems to be difficult while cultivation but as it grows as tree, it offers voluminous sweet fruits. Of course, the proper nurturing, care and protection is indispensable during its growth and development. The subjects which we learn in commerce viz., accounting, finance, auditing, business and company law, e-commerce, strategic management, international business, corporate governance, business ethics etc. enhance understanding about trade, business, stock exchanges, monetary and fiscal policies, market fluctuations, thus, opening gates for wide choices of job opportunities to the business students in the corporate world of business.
The various graduate courses which students can opt after intermediate in commerce are B Com (General), B Com (Hons), BBA, Integrated M Com etc. Subsequently, they can proceed to M. Com (General), M Com (Professional), Professional courses (CA, CWA, CFA, and CS), Diploma courses (PGDBM, PGDBRM, PGDMSM, PGDAF) etc. Moreover, who are inquisitive in research can pursue M. Phil, Ph.D, Post Doctorate, and D.Litt. in various universities in India and abroad. The various jobs in which the business students can build their career are:
Teaching: The students can become Assistant Professors in colleges and Universities. The eligibility includes CBSE/UGC NET/SET, publications in UGC approved Journals, presentation of research papers in conferences and seminars, teaching experience etc. The Job provides handsome salary, reputation in society, research orientation, and interaction with the galaxy of intellectuals across the globe. They are further promoted as Associate Professors and Professors.
Research: One can pursue M.Phil and Ph.D after M Com. In fact, those who qualify CBSE/UGC JRF, get huge scholarship from UGC during the period of research as whole time scholar. During data analysis researcher can learn various statistical software viz., SPSS, AMOS, Mendley, Eviews and R giving them opportunity to excel in research and becoming data analyst as well.
Banking & Insurance: It includes probationary officer, management trainee, relationship manager, clerical positions, consultant and managers in insurance companies etc.
Administrative Positions: Students from commerce stream can also qualify IAS, KAS & A.D. for serving the nation with profound knowledge regarding taxation, accounting, finance, law, economy and environment.
Professional Positions: The students can become CA, CWA and CS after passing the various courses prescribed by the concerned professional bodies such as ICAI, ICWA, ICSI respectively. The vast knowledge of accounting, finance, auditing and company law helps to enter these professions easily. With implementation of the GST the need for these professionals has also increased leading to more job opportunities to commerce students.
Entrepreneurs: The commerce students can become entrepreneurs by starting their own venture which they can diversify from local to National and further to Global echelon. They must practice Mathematics, Reasoning and English for various competitive examinations.
They should also be acquainted with various computer software especially-Microsoft Office Tally and Busy. The time management, patience, perseverance, hard work, dedication, iron will and clear vision surely lead to great success. The students must inculcate the ethical virtues such as honesty, truthfulness, fairness, justice, commitment, sincerity, punctuality and integrity. They are the glorious future of the nation and their character shaped by the moral values will assist in liberating India from the clutches of corruption, poverty, mismanagement, poverty, unemployment and other socio-economical problems.
