JAMMU, Sept 22: Under the ongoing Inter-Collegiate/ Departmental ‘Display Your Talent’ 2012-13, the Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, conducted Cartooning and Sketching competitions, here today.
The participants highlighted the sky high rising prices of the Gas Cylinders, Diesel, Petrol, Essential Commodities and agony of a common man, the mad rush being observed at the Mc’Donalds in Jammu and in spite of the installation of Traffic lights, these are not being observed by the general public.
They used various mediums for preparing the cartoons with illustrations such as water colours, poster, and pastel colours etc. While in Sketching, the participants were made to sit in the lap of the Mother Nature and Sketch the Landscape in their view.
In Cartooning, Rimpla Kumari from Department of Commerce, was adjudged first, while Saria Choudhary from Govt Women College, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu and Tanvi Sharma from Institute of Music & Fine Arts, Jammu bagged the second and third positions respectively.

The topics for the Cartooning were ‘Traffic Lights in Jammu’, ‘Rich and Poor’, and ‘Mc’Donalds in Jammu’.
In Sketching, Pushkin Kainth and Mukesh Kumar both from Institute of Music & Fine Arts, Jammu bagged the first and third prize, respectively while Bharti Sharma from Govt Degree College, Akhnoor claimed the second place.
Rimpla Kumari from Department of Commerce, University of Jammu and Riya Chaddha from Model Institute of Engineering and Technology, Jammu were honored with certificates of merit.
Manoj Chopra, Advocate Dheeraj Nanda and Gobind Singh Rana were the experts for both the events.
52 students participated in the event.
Dr Sanjay Sharma was the Teacher Incharge for Cartooning while Dr Sarbjeet Kaur for Sketching and made the participants conversant about the rules and Regulations. The contest was supervised by Dr Lalit Sen Sharma as well.
Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee distributed the prizes amongst the winners in presence of Prof NK Tripathi, Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Harmeet Kour, Joint Secretary, SCC.
