JAMMU, June 23: As a part of their 48-hour strike, hundreds of casual labourers working in various Government departments under the banner of J&K Casual Labour United Front (JKCLUF) took out a protest rally in the city demanding regularization of their services and payment of their wages on monthly basis.
The rally was taken under the leadership of presidents of associations of casual labourers of various departments and was attended by a large number of casual labourers from different department while following all SOPs and guidelines issued by the Government in view of Coronavirus pandemic.
The protesters carrying banners and placards raised slogans in support of their demands and urged upon the Government to fulfill them without any further delay.
Speaking on the occasion, Tanveer Singh, president of causal workers of PHE Department said that the Government is well versed of the fact that around 60,000 workers have been engaged by the Government from time to time in last 25 years in different departments for smooth functioning of Government works.
Rajan Sharma, president of workers of Agriculture Department, said that the workers have been approaching the Government and its representatives since long for seeking regularization of their services and payment of wages on monthly basis but the authorities at the helm of affairs continued to cause delay in delivery of justice by constituting committees with no desirable result.
They said that now the Government is likely to recruit about 50,000 employees in different categories including 10,000 in Class IV cadre by direct recruitment and as such to treat the already engaged workers who are at the verge of age bar, as fresh candidates will straight way be injustice with them as they have already spent prime time of their lives in public service.
The leaders of the protesting workers urged the Government to regularize already engaged need based workers in one go under SRO 64 and implement Minimum Wages Act 2019 before making fresh recruitment.
Other leaders who participated in the protest rally were Kuldeep Raj, Devi Dass, Swami Raj, Satish Sharma and Amarjeet Singh.
Meanwhile, a massive protest demonstration of Casual Employee’s Union (CEU) of R&B Division Kashmir was held at Chief Office R&B Kashmir under the banner of CEU. Casual labourers appealed authorities for regularization and release of their pending wages which are stuck for the last two years.
The protesting casual employees said that they are facing tough times as the department has not released their salaries for last two years. They said employees are carrying out their duties regularly but the department has left their families in a lurch. We are suffering badly due to delay in the implementation of regularization policy, they added.
