LOS ANGELES, Oct 10: A movie remake of hit sitcom ‘Dad’s Army’ is under works and has added Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael gambon as cast members.
The original BBC series follows Home Guard service made up of retired soldiers and civilian volunteers as they are preparing to defend Britain from invasion by Germany.
The show aired from 1968 to 1977, reported Ace Showbiz.
The first film adaptation was made in 1971 with the original cast reprising their roles.
To be directed by Oliver Parker, Zeta-Jones will play a journalist in the movie who visits the soldiers for an interview. The arrival of the beautiful woman stirs the blood of the men and coincides with news that a spy is on the loose.
Nighy will play Sergeant Wilson who was made famous by the late John Le Mesurier, while Jones will star as Captain Mainwaring originally played by the late Arthur Lowe.
The other members of the platoon will be portrayed by Gambon, Tom Courtenay, Blake Harrison, Danny Mays and Bill Paterson. (PTI)
