JAMMU, Jan 3: The Crime Branch today detected that more than 270 contractors were taking contracts from various Government Departments on the basis of fake contractor cards in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. They have been booked by the investigating agency.
An official handout issued by the Crime Branch said they have registered a case against contractor Jia Lal son of Prem Singh of Beolie, Doda and others for possessing fake contractor cards and then using them to secure contracts from the Government departments.
Jia Lal had bagged many contracts and secured funds running into crores through fraudulent means from the public exchequer.
Jia Lal, according to the Crime Branch statement, had managed fake registration card from the office of Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Department Kashmir, Silk Factory Rajbagh Srinagar. Investigations by the Agency revealed that there was a group of persons which was fabricating such type of cards.
Various revelations came to the fore during the Crime Branch investigations. It was revealed that more than 270 contractors were having similar fake cards and they too had secured contracts from the Government Departments for construction works.
The Agency has registered a case at Crime Branch police station for in-depth investigations into the case against all accused involved in the racket.
The case is being investigated under the supervision of SSP Crime Branch Jammu Shailendra Kumar.
