CB files charge-sheets against 8 persons for duping victims of Rs 1.55 cr

JAMMU, Dec 9: The Crime Branch (CB) has filed charge-sheets in three separate cases against eight individuals accused of defrauding victims of Rs 1.55 crore by falsely offering land for sale in Jammu that had already been sold to other parties.
A Crime Branch official said the cases were registered after complaints were received from Tarsem Singh Chib, a retired Army Havaldar from Preet Nagar Jammu; Pankaj Sharma, a serving Army personnel from Marh Jammu; and Sanjay Choudhary, a resident of Shakti Nagar Jammu.
He said the complainants claimed that the accused had deceived them with fraudulent land deals, promising land that had already been sold to other buyers.
After completing the investigations, he said, the Crime Branch filed three charge-sheets in court.
The investigation involved collecting documentary and oral evidence, as well as obtaining expert opinions from the Forensic Science Laboratory, said the Crime Branch official.
He said the evidence confirmed that the accused had committed fraud, causing significant financial losses to the victims while making wrongful gains for themselves.
According to the CB official, the charge-sheets were filed in three separate cases FIR number 40/19, which involves sections 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, and 120-B of the RPC against three accused; FIR number 45/2024, under sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC against two accused; and FIR number 58/2022, under sections 420 and 120-B of the RPC against three accused.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Jammu, Benam Tosh, confirmed that the charge-sheets have been submitted to the court for judicial proceedings.
