CB presents first charge sheet in PSI Deepak Sharma murder case

JAMMU, July 8: The Special Crime Wing (SCW) of the Crime Branch (CB) Jammu has filed the first charge sheet against three hardcore criminals involved in the murder of PSI Deepak Sharma.
Sharma, who was posted at Police Station Ramgarh, Samba, was killed on April 2, 2024, while confronting members of the Shunnu Gang at GMC Kathua.
He was part of a trap team tasked with apprehending the gang’s leader, Vasudev alias Shunnu. During the encounter, Vasudev was killed, but five of his associates managed to escape.
The initial investigation, conducted by Police Station Kathua, was later handed over to the SCW of the Crime Branch Jammu.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Sandeep Mehta, SSP SCW Crime Branch Jammu, was constituted by Special DGP Crime, Deepak Kumar, to probe the case.
Through intensive efforts, the team arrested three hardcore criminals from Punjab: Himanshu Bassi of Nawashaher, Teja of SBS Nagar, and Jasvir Singh alias Baba of SBS Nagar.
The SCW Jammu worked closely with Punjab Police, leading to the tracking of another key accused, Rohit Kumar alias Makhan of RS Pura Jammu, from Jalandhar.
Kumar, wanted in several cases, will soon be taken into custody by SCW Jammu for further questioning, an SCW official said.
Today, the preliminary charge sheet was filed in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kathua against the three arrested individuals, as the investigation into their involvement has been completed and their offences proved. The accused are currently in judicial custody.
The SCW Jammu official stated that the investigation will continue until all culprits are apprehended, as three more suspects are still at large.
